Stretching has built quite a reputation in the fitness world. Many people swear by it, believing it’s the key to improving flexibility and preventing injuries. But let’s take a step back and rethink this. At FIIT CULTURE, we focus on evidence-based training—and stretching might not be the game-changer it’s hyped up to be.

Recent research across 55 studies has revealed something surprising: full range of motion (ROM) weight training can be just as effective as stretching for improving flexibility. Movements like squats, Romanian deadlifts, and chest presses act as dynamic stretches while also building strength and muscle. It’s like hitting two fitness goals with one movement—efficiency at its best.

Now, let’s talk injury prevention. Stretching doesn’t appear to significantly reduce the risk of overuse injuries, at least not beyond what a solid warm-up routine can achieve. The real magic of warming up lies in the name itself: warming up.

At FIIT CULTURE in East Hanover, we encourage our members to start with just 5 minutes of light-to-moderate cardio to get the blood flowing and muscles ready for action. Trust us, it works like a charm.

Of course, if you’re chasing elite levels of flexibility—think gymnasts or dancers—some dedicated static stretching might still be necessary. But for everyday fitness and health, you’re likely already getting everything you need from deep, controlled, full-ROM resistance training. And that’s exactly what we emphasize in our programs here at FIIT CULTURE.

So, next time you’re here crushing your workout, know that those deep squats or precise RDLs are doing more than just building strength—they’re helping you stay flexible and functional.

See you on the gym floor!
